The Persulfate/Iodine “Clock” Reaction – an Old Twist to an Older Tale PDF Print E-mail

This study involves an investigation of the kinetic order of the persulfate oxidation of iodide ion with respect to the two reactant ions. This would normally be carried out by making up a series of mixtures of varying concentration of these and observing that e.g. the rate doubles if the iodide concentration is doubled.  This would show first order behaviour in iodide.

The difference between this study and the usual simple approach to this reaction is that the primary kinetic salt effect is investigated.
